Saturday at Lakewood

Did ya hear the one about?

Silly Season and Qualifying Practice at Lakewood

Stewart is on hand and ready to see how practice goes tomorrow. Ferry was fastest in 450s and Alessi was again very on the gas. Whatever was in that shock KTM sent from Europe, they need to patent it.

Villopoto was fastest in Lites. Metcalf and Hahn are back.

Rumors that Alessi will join DV12 at Makita Suzuki are pretty firm at this point, but we have to say this is still "future news," meaning a lot of things still need to happen. If you had to make your list right now, plan on #800 riding yellow.

MDK is going to be doing the race teams for factory KTM in America:

1 semi for MDK KTM Factory Team, Wey on a 450, Davalos on a factory Lites 250F. Maybe one other 450 guy.
1 semi for MDK KTM Lites Team, Brayton, Sipes, Georke, and one more... KTM Factory motors.

That means KTM farms out it's SXMX racing, but stays very involved. Notice no one is mentioning Red Bull KTM. Red Bull is out of there.

J-Law stays at YOT for 2008. It's been reported that Morias does too but that's not 100%. At Star Racing, they are keeping Lemoine and Tickle, and will have two more.

Everyone keeps saying Byrne is going to Gibbs, but he says nothing is done!

Jessica Patterson is One Tough Lady

Jessica Patterson injured her finger in Sarah Whitmore's sprocket Saturday morning at the WMA national at Lakewood, Co. She had it bandaged up all day, and went out to ride the second moto to tough it out for points. Here she is after moto 2.

That's motocross.

Unadilla 2007 - Townley and KW!

KW won his first national since 2003, Townley won Lites and tied points again, RV broke a radiator and DNF'd a moto, Stewart crashed out of practice and wasn't in either moto, and this was the first time since 1996 that RC was not in either moto.

Unadilla in 2007 was a unique weekend.

The crowd looked really good, the hills were full of spectators. The track was changed in the middle to use fresh sections of dirt and to slow a little. The weather was way above average, with the temperature moderate and the umbrellas only out for a few minutes as the first 450 moto started.

Stewart skipped Saturday practice again and Ferry posted the best time Saturday. In Sunday practice, Stewart high-sided off his bike and landed hard on his back and stopped suddenly with no room to tumble. He was checked out at the Asterisk Center and then went to a local hospital. The decision was made to pull him from racing for the weekend since his back was still acting up, and they didn't want to take any more chances here.

The news that Stewart was stepping out Sunday had the 450 pits buzzing. Who would win? This was one of the first races in years that it didn't seem to be a done deal between Stewart and RC. With neither one in the race, it was hard to call. The short list of possible winners was: KW, Ferry, M Alessi, Langston, Millsaps, Short, and Tedesco.

Red Bud Practice Notes

Townley is out sick and not sure about tomorrow (WW is checking out the rumor it's his appendix).

RC broke a chain at the end of the second practice.

Stewart didn't do Saturday, like two weeks ago at Budds.

There are some really awesome vintage bikes in the infield!

M Alessi was flying second practice.

J-Law and Villopoto are very strong.

The second Lites seeded practice was red-flagged when Dungey crashed. He is out for tomorrow.

So far it is not confirmed if Townley is out tomorrow or not (as of last Saturday).

(Having net problems here, no pics yet!)

Top Pics and Fun Stuff from the Snoeshoe GNCC

This mulch pile made for some great pics.

Growing up tough. This kid already has rocks in his toy track!

Vendor row looked this nice.

After bike washing, its a few steps to Starbucks for a Latte Macciatto with an Almond twist..

Team Green has a #338, ?? (No, it's not J-Law.)

Knight (right) and his mechanic Shawn getting the bike ready.

The starts were pretty cool.

Prelude to mayhem - Yamaha's Mullins (right) and Hawk are about to turn left, but when they do, they hit a tough uphill and people start to get stuck...Moments later, a traffic jam stops nearly the entire pro class.

Doh! No Pasaran!

This is the track guy that watched the first lap pileup when he was radioing in "third place is stuck, and 4th....and 5th, oh, there goes 6th and 7th....and...." After that, he closed off the hill and changed the track to go around it.

The event was tough on bikes, lots of DNFs.

Nice view!

"Mr Cotter, you are saying you want to line up 300 motorcycles on our street, no tags, and they are going to race????"

Lining up the start.

The podium area was cool.
